Fartbound Project - Planning

Current State of Affairs
#

Almost a moth with very little progress but at least I’m still working on this small project. My day job has being calleenging me more than a bit fair and due to the current state of worldwide economic affairs, things are getting a bit crazy. So the thing is I’ve only had a few hours per week this month to rest and work on my personal projects and study so it’s been quite a handfull. Still I’ve manage to still some weekend hours today to play some small indie games I’ve been dying to play (by the way my all-time favorite indie game is Dredge and totally recommend it but I’m still yet to play the Pale Reach DLC and hope I’ll soon will be able to enjoy it). I enjoy these kinds of inovative games that teach me a lot about design when I’m able to analyse them beacause they’re so cool and inmersibe that is exteemely easy to get lost in their mechanics and narrative that not only time flies but they engage me so much that I completely suspend my disbelief I just become another player among fellow gamers. So this week I’ve taken some time to catch up with Wordle, Tumblewords, Word Play, Balatro, and yesterday and today I was able to also play Easy Delivery Co and Death’s Door, what incredible pair of games, both very different and yet very much speak to me in a surprsingly fun and familiar way. I also installed Laika: Aged Through Blood on my Steam Deck so if I’m able to still a couple of hours during next week I’ll at least be able to test it. Of course, inspiration and resting come not only from games but other forms of arts and entertainment so in the last month my partner and I have being catching up with sime TV Series like Andor, Pantheon, Dan Da Dan, and Haunted Hotel. I’m also trying to excercise a bit more lately, it always helps me to keep myself energized and awake during long work days. So, all that to say that my rutine is finally starting to align with my wishes and I’m hoping to finally be able to dedicate more time to this project.

The Planning Process
#

I’m using Freeform to create a one-page or one-large-board GDD and defining scope and prototype features to be tested and I’m just introducing Kanri in my workflow for the first time, is a very nice open-source tool that allows me to locally run my own kanban board without having to pay for an extra service. It also keeps it’s functionality to the core of my needs without unnecessary bloat and overhyped features, it’s a very simple and easy-to-use kanban manager and I’m loving it.

As you might be able to see in the previous image I’m already doing some tasks and giving myself some planning parameters, including for the intial phase of prototyping, I’m defining some deadlines and milestines and I hope to share my progress towards them in the near feature.
